1. 과거와 최근 프리미엄 비교 (Comparison of past and recent premiums)
프리미엄은 정식 가격(세금포함)과 병행수입가격을 비교하여 계산하였다. 과거와 현재 프리미엄을 비교하면서 최근 수요가 얼마나 급증하였는지를 살펴본다.

2008년 리먼브러더스 파산에 따른 세계적 경제 위기가 오자, 스틸 데이토나 조차 예약이 취소되고 마이너스 프리미엄이 처음으로 나타나기도 했다. 롤렉스 시계에 대한 수요는 2013년이 되서야 회복이 시작된 것을 알 수 있다. 따라서, 과거와 최근 프리미엄과 비교할 때에는 2008년 이전의 자료에서 모델 변경이 없었던 데이토나 중심으로 비교해본다.

발매 초기 형성되는 프리미엄을 제외한다면, 최근 인기 모델들은 100% 전후로 프리미엄을 형성하고 있다. 더욱이, 최근에는 데이토나뿐만 아니라 GMT와 섭마 등 여러 모델들이 골고루 높은 프리미엄을 형성하고 있어서 과거와 많은 차이가 있다. 즉, 현재는 리먼브러더스 파산 이전의 수요가 회복되었을 뿐아니라 이전보다 수요가 더욱 증가하였다는 것을 알 수 있다.

인기 모델인 펩시와 블랙베이 58을 제외하고서는, 대부분의 모델은 마이너스 20% 전후의 프리미엄을 형성하고 있다. 프리미엄 측면에서 보면, "현재" 튜더는 "과거" 롤렉스와 비슷한 면이 있다.

튜더는 1996년 튜더 설립 50주년부터 롤렉스로부터의 독립을 진행하고 있다. 용두와 케이스백에서 왕관 대신 방패을 사용하기 시작해서 지금까지 조금씩 독립을 진행하고 있다.

하지만, 현재에도 튜더 시계의 최종조립은 롤렉스 본사에서 진행되고 있다. 개별 부품 생산과 달리, 최종 조립은 시장 공급량을 결정한다는 점에서 롤렉스와 튜더 공급량은 서로 영향받을 수 밖에 없다. 따라서, 튜더가 완전히 롤렉스로 부터 독립이 된다면, 롤렉스 시계 공급도 늘어날 것으로 생각된다.
However, the final assembly of the TUDOR watches is still being carried out at the ROLEX headquarters. ROLEX and TUDOR supply are inevitably affected by the fact that the final assembly determines market supply unlike the production of individual parts. Therefore, if TUDOR is completely independent of Rolex, the supply of ROLEX watches is also expected to increase.
2) 롤렉스 (ROLEX)
롤렉스의 현재 생산 공장들은 과거 수요를 바탕으로 만들었기 때문에 현재의 역대급 수요을 감당하고 있지 못하고 있는 것으로 보인다. 따라서, 과거에 예측하지 못했던 새로운 수요을 감당하기 위해 롤렉스만의 새로운 공장을 만들 수도 있다. 하지만, 제2의 쿼츠 파동이 올수 있는 스마트워치와의 경쟁에서 살아 남아야되는 현실 속에서, 롤렉스가 무리하게 새로운 공장을 증설할 것으로는 보이지 않는다.
ROLEX's current production facilities are based on past demand and are not meeting the recent demand. Therefore, ROLEX can build a new factory to meet new demands that were not anticipated in the past. However, it is not expected that ROLEX will build a new factory in a situation where it has to survive competition with Smart Watch that can come in the second quartz crisis.
B. 수요 감소 (Decrease Demand)
2008년 리먼브러더스 파산에 따른 세계적 경제 위기가 오자, 스틸 베젤 데이토나 조차 예약이 취소되고 마이너스 프리미엄이 처음으로 나타나기도 했다. 이와 같은 세계적 경제 위기가 아니라면, 롤렉스 시계에 대한 수요는 쉽게 꺼지지 않을 것으로 보인다.

5. 결론 (Conclusion)
2008년 리먼 파산 전에도, 롤렉스 시계에는 데이토나을 중심으로 프리미엄이 있었다. 리먼 파산 이후 2012년까지의 시장가격이 오히려 역대급으로 저렴하던 시절이었다. 이 저렴한 시절을 거쳐 최근 급증한 프리미엄을 경험한 사람들은 이 반전된 상황을 쉽게 받아들이기 어려운 것 같다. 물론 2008년 이전과 비교하더라도 최근 프리미엄은 역대급이다. 하지만, 위에서 살펴본 것처럼 이 거품이 쉽게 꺼질 것 같지는 않다.

거품이 꺼지기를 기다려 롤렉스 시계를 저렴하게 구매하려고 하는 사람이 있다면 위 책 제목처럼 말하고 싶다. "지금 당장 롤렉스 시계를 사라" 왜냐하면, 그 때는 바로 세계적 경제위기가 찾아왔다는 뜻이고, 결국 여유돈도 없을 것이기 때문이다. 물론, 여유돈이 있는 사람이라고 하더라도, 거품 꺼진 주식이나 부동산 등 다른 투자할 곳이 많은 상황에서 굳이 시계에 투자할 사람은 많지 않을 것으로 보인다.
If someone is waiting for the bubble to go off in order to buy a ROLEX watch at a reasonable price, I'd like to say the following like the book title above. "Buy a ROLEX right now." This is because you can't afford to buy a ROLEX watch in the world economic crisis. Even if you are rich, there are not many people who will invest in watches in situations where there are many places to invest, such as bubble-free stocks or real estate.
